Marvin, I did know that mutual funds are lacking performance, but I had no clue how brutal the fees and taxes can be, so I decided not to invest into funds as you nicely said, why paying your hard earned cash for garbage!
Not very many people know that it is indeed a FACT that most mutual funds do not keep up with the S&P 500. So at the very basic level of understanding someone should be able to comprehend that not only are their gains not going to be as much BUT they are also going to pay an absurd amount of fees for advice that is garbage.
